Quartzite is one of the hardest surfaces you can put in a kitchen, so when a quartzite top is damaged the first question is whether it is quartzite at all. A good share of what is sold under that name is dolomitic marble, and marble etches. Send photos and we will tell you which you have before we touch anything.

Repair work is scheduled differently depending on how far you are from our Lynnwood fabrication floor. These pages explain what to expect where most of our repair requests come from.
True quartzite is extremely hard and does not etch when it meets lemon juice or vinegar. A softer stone sold as quartzite does etch, and an etch is not a stain. A stain is something that went in. An etch is the surface itself eaten away by acid.
This matters because they are fixed in completely different ways, and because telling you the slab in your kitchen is not what you were told it was is sometimes the most valuable part of the visit.
Etch marks. On the softer stones, re-polished out of the surface.
Chips. Quartzite is hard, so it chips less often, but when it does it breaks sharp and clean. Filled with tinted epoxy and levelled.
Dull areas from the wrong cleaner, usually restored.
Open seams and loose undermount sinks.
Working true quartzite is slow. It is harder than granite and it does not give. A quartzite repair takes longer than the same repair on granite, and we would rather say that up front than surprise you on the day.
Quartz, granite and quartzite are damaged in different ways and repaired with different methods. These pages explain what a repair can and cannot achieve on each.
